Like it or not, Tiktok has legit taken over the world as one of the most popular short video platforms. The app has billions of downloads across the world, making Bytedance one of the highest valued startups around the world. After dominating the video world, it looks like the company is now ready to take over the music streaming space as well.
Bytedance has now launched a new music app in India and Indonesia called ‘Resso’, and it looks like it is out to compete with the likes of Spotify and Apple Music in these markets.
According to reports, the Resso app was initially launched around six months back and it has already been installed over 27,000 times on iOS and Android. Although Resso is just a music app, it differentiates itself by displaying real-time lyrics on the app. In fact, it also lets users post comments under individual songs, which is a kind of social interaction we’ve never seen on any other music app before.
Additionally, the app also brings some of Tiktok’s functionality and allows users to create short GIFs and videos while the music is playing in the background. The clips created by users are called Vibes and they appear as album art when you play that specific song. So other users can also like your ‘Vibes’ and the most liked vibe will appear as the default album art for that song.
Much like Tiktok, Resso is free to use. However, it also offers a monthly paid subscription plan for an ad-free experience. The monthly subscription is priced at Rs 119 in India and it’ll let you play/ download music for offline playback, remove ads and listen to high-quality audio. And yeah, the app also offers a 14-day free trial for new users.
In case you’re interested, you can download it from the Google Play Store and check it out.
