OnePlus 8 rumours started to surface online as soon as the OnePlus 7T series was launched a few months ago. Most of the leaks pointed to one common feature, i.e. multiple punch-hole cameras on the display instead of a pop-up camera like the current Pro models. OnePlus has already confirmed that a future smartphone will come with a 120Hz refresh rate display but a new leak gives us a more detailed look about the display settings.
A new image was leaked via TrueTech.net that shows off the alleged OnePlus 8 Pro in hands-on pictures. It clearly shows that the punch-hole display that was previously rumoured to be a feature, but when one looks closely, it also shows some display settings that users will be able to take advantage of. In the picture, we can see that the smartphone will be able to adjust between three refresh rates i.e. 120Hz, 90Hz, or 60Hz. We currently don’t know if OnePlus will be limiting the higher refresh rate for specific resolutions. However, as it stands at the moment, we can expect the OnePlus 8 Pro to run 120HZ at QHD+ resolution.
It is worthy to note that higher refresh rates draw more power from the GPU and CPU that also affects battery life. It would be interesting to see how the OnePlus 8 Pro’s battery will perform when using the device with the 120Hz refresh rate setting turned on. A higher refresh rate results in a smoother navigation experience and also has its advantages for gaming. However, none of the popular battle-royale games have enabled support for higher refresh rates as that is where this feature will come most handy.
